The Ultimate Month-By-Month Guide for Gardeners this 2019 (PART 1)

It is not enough to be good at gardening alone. Timing plays a big role in having a bountiful garden. In carrying out plans in gardening, it is best to have all months planned out. Here is a month-by-month guide that may be helpful to gardeners:

January

It may still be wintry during the month of January, but there are some things that you can still do during this month. Planning is one of them. Planning is crucial in growing a garden. You can plan things such as where to place the planting beds and even give your garden a new look. Jot them down on your notebook so you will be all set when you start to work.

You can also come up with a shopping list of seedlings that you want to grow for coming seasons of the year.

February

If the soil has become a little warmer and workable than it was during winter, you can start by prepping the seeds that can grow in a cool season – spinach, onions, broccoli, etc.

If planting won’t still be practicable for this month, you can sort the seedlings you have ticked from your shopping list according to classifications that you prefer. You can classify them according to kind or time that it blooms.

It is also best to complete your gardening tools. Be sure to replace tools that went missing the past year.

March

If the soil temperature is at five degree Celsius or preferably above, you can start planting the seeds that you have prepped for the cool season last February. They should be fine in this kind of temperature.

It sure will be warmer inside the house. You can start planting seeds that is best for the warmer season inside. Eggplants, tomatoes, and squash are few of the common warmer season plants.

April

It has gotten warmer during the month of April. You can transfer the warm season plants that you kept inside the house in the garden’s soil already. Be sure that the soil temperature is not too hot for the plants – keep watch with a soil thermometer.

May

It probably is the warmest of all months. You can now start planting seeds that can survive the heat and maybe add more eggplants, tomatoes, and squash seedlings to grow.

Be sure to water the plants to avoid drying out, but do not over water them.

June

You can start harvesting some of the plants that have grown fruits already (only if they are ready to be harvested!) but be sure to do it in the morning or evening, the cooler times of the day to avoid stressing out the plants.

For the following months, harvesting may be your focus.
