How are MCG Biomarkers Made?

How are MCG Biomarkers Made?.jpgAs an organic gardener, no doubt you’re passionate about taking care of your garden and protecting the environment. If you’re in a colder state, you’re probably itching to get in your garden and get the ball rolling on your first harvest.

Since mother nature has decided to keep things cool, especially here in Iowa, there are some things you can do before planting time. Now is a good time to make sure you have all the tools you need. Clean off your gloves, replace blunt shears, and get your labels ready for the season.

If you’re in the market for new garden markers, and you want to be eco-friendly, we’ve got a solution that will help you stay organized and feel good. We recommend using Biomarkers, developed by MCG BioComposits LLC of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Shortly after the first Biomarker was created for a garden club in Des Moines, Iowa, it became clear how useful they are. Manufactured out of corn cobs and recycled high-density polyethylene, these markers are ideal for anyone wanting to keep their garden organized and professional-looking.

How they’re made

Biomarkers are made from a product called Biomass, which is a “biological material derived from living, or recently living organisms. In the context of biomass for energy, this is often used to mean plant-based material, but biomass can equally apply to both animal and vegetable derived material” (BioMass Energy Centre).

The Biomass material is then injected into molds, making them the perfect substitute for markers made from petroleum-based virgin plastics.

Why they’re easy to use

Biomarkers are easy to work with because they’re truly waterproof. You don’t have to worry about them breaking down in the elements throughout the gardening season, which saves you money in the long run.

You can print your own labels with your home laser printer or with a writable permanent marker. When harvest time is over, you can easily remove them from the ground because they’re pressure sensitive. A lot of gardeners like the fact that the labels are easy to remove from the markers since there’s no sticky residue left behind. All you have to do is clean off the marker and stick on another label!

What makes biomarkers so beneficial

Making your own labels for your organic garden can be fun, but if you don’t make them well, they can be hard to read, especially from the other end of the garden. MCG Biomarkers are easy to read and the marking doesn’t fade away. The labels will stay on even when exposed to sun, rain, and snow, so you can use them through multiple crop rotations.

Do you need to prop up smaller plants in your garden? Grab a set of MCG biomarkers and you’ll be good to go!
